Joints of Chic and Innovation — Daisuke Masuda’s Vision for Global Craft

Tucked away in a quiet backstreet of downtown Tokyo, a modest workshop breathes with the scent of seasoned wood.

Here, Daisuke Masuda—honed under the rigorous tutelage of master sashimono artisans—carries the Edo tradition of nail‑free joinery into the present day. He reads the grain like a score, lets the blade glide as naturally as breath, and fits every joint with tolerances finer than a strand of hair. The furniture born of his hands is built for a century of use, passing from parent to child, from child to grandchild.

Masuda’s flawless technique has drawn global attention. He served as the Tokyo representative for the LEXUS NEW TAKUMI PROJECT and continues to showcase his work on the world stage at Maison & Objet in Paris and beyond.
